Cutting the cord — WINX Connect wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto adapter review

Using the WINX Connect Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay adapter in my vehicle has transformed my daily driving experience.

It plugs into my car’s USB port (USB-A or USB-C) and lets me connect to Apple CarPlay wirelessly, instead of being limited to my vehicle’s existing, wired-only Apple CarPlay.

The WINX Connect also supports Android Auto if you do not have an iPhone.

Either way, solutions like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are valuable features in modern cars — and the WINX Connect adaptor takes the experience to new heights.

Without WINX Connect, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were already important parts of my daily commute.

They let me connect my smartphone to my car’s infotainment system, enabling me to play music, use my smartphone’s GPS, and communicate while driving.

The biggest drawback I faced when using Apple CarPlay in my vehicle was that I had to plug my smartphone into the interface each time.

This is tedious and results in cumbersome wires that can get in the way of my driving experience.

The WINX Connect adapter solves this, as it works the same way as a wireless mouse’s dongle.

It plugs into your infotainment system’s USB port and can then connect to your smartphone wirelessly.

We tested the WINX Connect in a Volkswagen Polo with wired-only Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to see how well it works.

We used an iPhone to test Apple CarPlay and an Android smartphone with Android Auto, and the results were impressive on both systems.

As soon as I started the car, my smartphone would connect wirelessly to the WINX Connect adaptor.

I could immediately start playing music or navigating with maps without having to fumble for a cable.

There was no noticeable lag in performance, and the audio quality was crystal clear thanks to the WINX Connect’s powerful wireless connection.

It uses Bluetooth for initial pairing, and once your smartphone is paired, data is transferred via a high-speed Wi-Fi frequency.

5.8GHz Wi-Fi frequencies provide fast transfer speeds and superior bandwidth, ensuring you don’t have to worry about latency.

During long morning commutes, we put this to the test with hands-free phone calls, and found it offered a seamless communication experience.

We also used popular apps like Spotify, Google Maps, and Google Assistant simultaneously, and everything ran smoothly.

A hardy device

This is not the first one of these devices that I have tested — but the previous one didn’t last long.

With the WINX Connect, this is not a concern. This compact device is made from aviation-grade aluminium and explosion-proof tempered glass.

This gives it an extremely rugged exterior and fast heat dissipation, which results in improved performance.

Thanks to these strong materials, and the WINX Connect’s soft woven nylon wrapping around its USB cable, I had no concerns about it getting knocked about while driving — even when venturing onto rougher gravel roads.

The WINX Connect Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto adapter is an excellent way to improve your vehicle’s wired-only infotainment system.

It is available at a recommended retail price of R1,499, making it an accessible and worthwhile addition to your car.
