Major South African network buys over 11,000km of fibre cable

South African fibre network operator Frogfoot has announced its acquisition of American Tower Corporation Africa’s (ATC’s) fibre assets.

ATC is a prominent provider of wireless and infrastructure solutions in South Africa and has been one of Frogfoot’s key partners since 2017.

It has more than 2,600 tower sites and 11,000km of fibre optic cabling in South Africa.

Frogfoot said acquiring ATC’s fibre assets highlights its commitment to sustainable growth and investing in high-quality network infrastructure.

“This acquisition reinforces Frogfoot’s success in the market while ensuring continuity for customers, with no changes to their current services,” adds Frogfoot.

Frogfoot CEO Shane Chorley said the acquisition marks a natural extension of the two companies’ partnership and the FNO’s commitment to delivering quality and reliable service to its customers.

“Our partnership has been built on mutual trust and shared goals, and the acquisition aligns perfectly with our long-term strategy of strengthening and expanding Frogfoot’s network capabilities,” he said.

“As we take this next step, we remain dedicated to providing seamless connectivity and superior service to businesses and homes across the regions we serve.”

ATC has a global portfolio of digital infrastructure assets and other communication infrastructure solutions, enabling its partners to keep customers connected.

It has been an active stakeholder in the African telecoms market, operating more than 22,000 sites on the continent, including over 2,600 tower sites in South Africa.

Of these, over 1,700 are supported by on-site backup power.

It also has over 150 rooftop sites across the country.

In addition to partnering with Frogfoot, the company also supports wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) and rural operators in South Africa.

“We enable network deployment for WISPs and rural operators. ATC South Africa strives to provide a customised approach to best meet individual business needs and help get on our sites easier,” it says.

ATC also offers various other services, such as site acquisitions, engineering, and construction.
