Huge change to FNB eBucks and Standard Bank UCount rewards

Standard Bank customers can now benefit from shopping at Shoprite and Checkers thanks to the bank’s UCount rewards programme, which has partnered with the retail group.
This comes after FNB dropped Africa’s biggest retailer from its eBucks programme.
“This partnership unlocks powerful synergies between Africa’s largest bank and Africa’s most extensive retail network,” Standard Bank personal and private banking CEO Funeka Montjane said.
“Redeeming UCount Rewards Points for groceries will ease the pressure many households feel at the tills by ensuring that customers enjoy greater savings and rewards on everyday grocery purchases.”
The partnership will allow Ucount members to earn up to 30% back in rewards points in store, and up to 40% back when shopping on the retailer’s delivey platform, Sixty60.
The amount earned on purchases will depend on the user’s UCount level. Users will be able to redeem these points in-store and online.
“We focused on what truly matters to our customers and aligned the UCount Shoprite Checkers rewards with their daily needs to ensure meaningful value with every swipe,” Montjane said.
“By combining Standard Bank’s data insights with Shoprite Checkers’ retail expertise, we’ve created a seamless and innovative rewards experience that also drives targeted behaviour shifts.”
In the announcement regarding its new partnership, the Shoprite Group also noted that it FNB had terminated its partnership with the retailer effective 31 March 2025.
“We do not believe in reducing value to customers in these tough times,” Shoprite CEO Pieter Engelbrecht said.
“That is why we are so pleased to partner with Standard Bank who are offering additional, clear value to our customers as well as Discovery Vitality who share our commitment to help customers live better every day.”
The partnership between Checkers and Discovery Vitality was launched in September last year. Customers can earn up to 75% back in Discovery Miles on more than 2,500 products.
FNB partnered with Pick n Pay from the beginning of November, allowing its customers to earn up to 20% back on in-store purchases and up to 30% back on the asap! app.
Pick n Pay clothing was included in the rewards programme, with Aspire clients earning up to R150 back in eBucks and Premier, Private Clients, and Private Wealth members earning up to 20% back on purchases.
The partnership also introduced the 99c promotional offer that allowed shoppers to purchase four loaves of bread per month for less than R1 when using their FNB Easy Debit Card.
