WhatsApp hit by outage

WhatsApp users around the world reported that they were unable to send or receive WhatsApp message or make calls on Friday, 28 February 2025.

Real-time outage monitoring and reporting site Downdetector shows that people began reporting the problem around 17:45.

MyBroadband’s testing indicated that some users were getting messages through from around 17:55.

The cause of the downtime was not known at publication time.

WhatsApp owner Meta Platforms recently experienced a major outage in December that affected Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp worldwide.

It also affected other Meta services like Messenger and Threads.

The outage lasted over five hours before Meta was able to fully restore services. It did not provide further details.

Fortunately, it appears as though Friday’s outage was brief, with WhatsApp restoring services within 15 minutes after the outage began.

However, while some users’ services were restored quickly, others reported that they still experienced long delays in message delivery 25 minutes after the first reports started.
