New DStv prices announced

MultiChoice South Africa has announced its annual price and product adjustments for DStv and Showmax.

The pay-TV operator has notified customers about increases for its satellite-based packages and Showmax Premier League subscriptions, and confirmed there would be no price increase on DStv Stream.

The company said its annual adjustment emphasises providing exceptional value and diverse entertainment options to customers.

“Recognising the financial pressures faced by South African households, MultiChoice has implemented considered adjustments, focusing on enhancing value across its packages,” said MultiChoice South Africa CEO Byron du Plessis.

“Certain products received no increase, including all DStv Stream packages, Box Office movies and Showmax Entertainment, while the ADD Movies premium movie bolt was reduced to just R49pm, a 38% price reduction.”

For Premium, Compact Plus and Compact subscribers, an additional concurrent stream on any device has been added.

MultiChoice said this allows customers to enjoy entertainment on more devices and in more environments.

Compact customers will also get five brand new channels, including the SuperSport Action channel and four new general entertainment offerings.

In addition, Compact subscribers can look forward to the new season of Shaka Ilembe, which MultiChoice promised would be its biggest-ever local production spectacle.

There will also be three new channels added for the Family package and two new channels for Access customers.

DStv prices for 2025

“As announced in the recent national budget, the South African VAT rate will increase by 0.5% to 15.5% from 1 May 2025. As a result, pricing will need to be adjusted for this higher VAT rate effective 1 May,” MultiChoice said.

“We will communicate the impact of this VAT increase on your package pricing during April 2025.”

MultiChoice encouraged customers to take advantage of its price lock deals, which it says offers amazing value.

“For example, on a 24-month price lock contract, available until 31 March 2025 at R899pm, customers save R2,400 over two years,” it said.

“MultiChoice remains committed to delivering high-quality content and exceptional value to its diverse audience and is continuously reviewing its suite of products in line with customer preferences and conditions as well as the economics of the SA business overall.”
