These postgraduate programmes comprise the University of the Free State’s acclaimed Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Higher Education and its Bachelor of Education (BEd) Honours.
The PGDip is part-time, while the BEd Honours degree is available to full-time students.
The arrangements allow a wide range of prospective students to enjoy the value that these programmes can bring to their professional careers.
Core requirements for both programmes include the following:
- A relevant qualification (NQF level 7)
- A minimum of 60% in a preceding degree or 65% in an advanced diploma
The PGDip Higher Education also requires the applicant to have experience in the higher education environment.
We unpack each programme in more depth below.
Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (PGDip HE)
The PGDip HE has been expertly crafted for university and college lecturers who wish to refine their skills and learn cutting-edge teaching techniques.
You will gain insight into the best ways to design your curriculum while also enhancing your pedagogical knowledge and skills.
This is a well-recognised qualification from a leading institution – the University of the Free State – opening up new lecturing opportunities for your future.
The diploma is offered on a two-year, part-time basis.
Bachelor of Education Honours (BEdHons)
The BEdHons is the ideal choice for those looking to create new opportunities for themselves in the education field.
You will benefit from research-driven learning that enhances your ability to teach, while simultaneously enjoying flexible study options that allow you to study while working.
This programme aligns perfectly with majors in Mathematics, Language, Social Sciences, Science and Technology (Bloemfontein only), Natural Sciences (Bloemfontein only), and Economic and Management Sciences (Bloemfontein only).
The BEdHons also offers Psychology of Education and Early Childhood Development and Learning modules, but these require students to have Psychology up to second-year level or a Foundation Phase Teaching qualification, respectively.
The programme duration is one full year, or two years part-time, with the class frequency depending on which of these options is chosen.
