South Africa’s favourite business telecoms providers

A recent survey of South African IT decision makers revealed that Vodacom, Openserve and Vox are their favourite brands for telecoms in their companies.

This data formed part of Analytico’s 2025 business technology survey.

This year’s survey involved 1,348 respondents, all of whom hold key decision-making roles within their organizations.

These individuals are responsible for selecting ICT products and services, making their insights particularly valuable in understanding market preferences.

As part of the survey, these decision-makers were asked which mobile networks, fixed telecoms, business fibre and VOIP service providers they would choose for their company.

While some companies provide complete solutions covering more than one of these categories, they may also specialise in only one or two areas.

Telecommunications is the backbone of modern business operations, providing the tools and infrastructure needed to stay connected in an increasingly digital world.

Key components such as mobile networks, fixed telecoms, business fibre, and Voice over IP (VoIP) services play essential roles in driving productivity, collaboration, and growth.

Mobile networks ensure seamless communication and access to information on the go.

With reliable mobile connectivity, employees can work remotely, attend virtual meetings, and access critical business applications anytime, anywhere.

This flexibility is vital for businesses adapting to hybrid work environments and expanding their geographic reach.

Fixed telecoms remain essential for businesses requiring stable and dependable communication infrastructure.

Fixed lines are particularly valuable for offices and call centres where uninterrupted voice and data communication is critical for daily operations.

Business fibre has revolutionized connectivity by delivering high-speed internet that supports large-scale data transfers, cloud-based tools, and real-time collaboration.

Its reliability and scalability make it an indispensable resource for companies of all sizes, enabling them to handle increasing digital demands.

VoIP technology has transformed voice communication by enabling cost-effective, Internet-based calls.

VoIP solutions are highly scalable, easy to integrate with other IT systems, and ideal for modern businesses seeking efficiency and cost savings without sacrificing call quality.

Together, these telecom solutions empower businesses to stay competitive, adaptable, and connected in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Mobile networks

When asked which mobile networks they would choose for their business to use, the survey respondents favoured two companies.

Vodacom is the clear favourite, with nearly half of the votes, while MTN received 36% of the vote.

Telkom is also popular at around 10%, while Cell C and Rain both struggle in the business space at only 3%.

Fixed telecoms

There is a wider competition among fixed telecommunications providers, but Vodacom Business was still the clear winner at 27%.

MTN business received 17% of the votes, with Dimension Data at 15% and Vox at 14%.

Business fibre

Openserve is the preferred business fibre provider, with a third of the total votes.

Vodacom and Metrofibre make up the top three at 16% and 11% respectively.

VOIP provider

VOX dominates the VOIP space in South Africa, with 42% of the vote, while the closest competitors, Switch Telecom and Bitco received only 12%.
