South Africa’s best ISPs revealed

MyBroadband Insights data shows that Afrihost was the best ISP in South Africa during Q4 2024, followed by Vox, Axxess, and Internet Solutions.

This result is based on data collected from the MyBroadband Speed Test app, which allows users from across South Africa to test their Internet speeds and determine whether their ISP meets their expectations.

The app tests Internet connections across both fixed and mobile connections and is available to download on Android and iOS devices. You can also perform a speed test through your browser here.

When a user runs a test, the app determines the user’s download speed, upload speed, and latency. Users can also rate their Internet quality on a five-star scale once the test is complete.

MyBroadband Insights used this data to determine which ISP delivered the best overall Internet experience in Q4 2024.

Based on this data, Afrihost was the best overall performer, with the highest overall user rating of 82% and the top average download speed of 65.63Mbps.

Its overall user rating is a substantial improvement over Q3’s results, where it tied with RSAWeb for the top spot with an average overall rating of 74%.

Afrihost also boasted the second-highest average upload speed of 51.31Mbps — further emphasizing its standing as a leading South African ISP in Q4 2024.

Vox enjoyed the second-highest overall user rating of 72%, closely followed by Axxess and Internet Solutions — which tied at 70%.

Another notable performer was Webafrica, which boasted the highest average upload speed of 60.96Mbps and the lowest average latency of 9.95ms.

However, Webafrica lagged behind ISPs like Afrihost in the user rating category, with an overall user rating of only 68%.
