Nintendo Switch 2 price in South Africa revealed

Online gaming tech, anime, manga, and comic retailer Nexus Hub has listed the Nintendo Switch 2 console on its platform for R12,499 on pre-order.

At the same time, pre-ordering the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World will set you back R2,000.

Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 on 2 April 2025, with a release planned for 5 June. The international recommended retail price for the handheld is $450 (R8,563), representing a $150 (R2,854) price increase over the original Switch.

The new Switch can play nearly every game released for the original console, as well as titles developed exclusively for the Switch 2.

It also boasts new features, such as enabling users to flip the controllers to use them as a mouse to play certain games.

The controller features a new dedicated GameChat button. This feature will enable players to talk to their friends through the Switch 2’s built-in microphone and screen share while gaming.

Nintendo will sell a camera separately that will enable users to appear on screen while playing, much like they would if they were streaming on YouTube or Twitch.

Users can also play supported games locally or online with others using Nintendo Switch 2 systems, even if they don’t own the game.

Other features of the system include two USB-C ports (on the top and bottom), an adjustable stand with more flexibility than the original Switch, and 256 GB of built-in storage.

The display maxes out at 1080p. However, it supports HDR, and with the new dock, users will be able to play games in 4K resolution on their TVs or monitors.

The Switch 2 isn’t as graphically powerful as some rivals, such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. However, its performance improvements have allowed Nintendo to attract third-party publishers like Bandai Namco Entertainment.

The video game developer said the popular action role-playing game Elden Ring will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2.
